Dear Colleagues,
The burden of traumatic brain injury (TBI) is on the rise anywhere. However, the mechanisms of injury involved, as well as the severity and long-term consequences of TBI, might vary remarkably across countries, with a large divide between high-, low-, and middle-income countries. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a pathological conditions that has garnered increased attention in recent years, particularly in the context of sports-related TBI.
In fact, mild TBI/concussion injuries and CTE are currently the subject of intense research and public concern due to their incidence among world-renowned professional athletes. This has put the potential long-term consequences of repeated head injuries under the spotlight.
The primary goal of this Special Issue is to offer a forum for research into the early monitoring, pathophysiology and prognostication of TBI. As such, we invite the submission of papers that delve deeper into the distinct features, causes, symptoms and outcomes of TBI and CTE. Understanding these conditions is crucial for both the medical/scientific community and the public in terms of enabling preventive measures and offering improved care for individuals at risk of or affected by these injuries.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
