We are pleased to announce that Medicina is now inviting nominations for the Medicina 2023 Young Investigator Award. This prize will be given to one young investigator in recognition of their excellence in the field of medicine. All nominations will be assessed by an Award Evaluation Committee led by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Edgaras Stankevicius.
The Prizes:
– CHF 2000;
– Option to publish one paper free of charge in Medicina after peer review before the end of 31 December 2024;
– An electronic certificate.
Eligibility and Requirements for Candidates:
– Must have received their PhD no more than 10 years prior to 31 December 2023;
– Must have produced ground-breaking research and made a significant contribution to the advancement of medical;
– Must be nominated by senior scientists.
List of Documents for Nomination:
– Detailed Curriculum Vitae, including an updated publication list and a list of the researcher’s own research grants;
– Scanned copy of doctorate certificate;
– Signed nomination letters from two established senior scientists.

The journal Medicina is inviting applications for the 2022 Best PhD Thesis Award. This prize will be awarded to a PhD student or doctor who has produced a thesis with highly anticipated academic potential. The applications will be assessed by an evaluation committee led by Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Edgaras Stankevičius.
Eligibility and Requirements:
(a) The candidate must be a PhD student or a doctor who has produced a thesis with highly anticipated academic potential.
(b) The PhD thesis must be their original work.
(c) The PhD thesis must be defended in 2022.
(d) Applicants are required to submit the following documents:
– An executive summary of the PhD thesis of around 3000 words in English;
– A letter from the PhD supervisor recommending the candidate for consideration for this award;
– The candidate’s CV, including a list of publications connected with the thesis;
– An electronic copy of the PhD thesis;
– A scanned copy of the PhD diploma (or certificate of studying at a school or research institute as a PhD student going to graduate or participate in graduation thesis defenses).
Selection Criteria:
– Quality of resume and publications;
– Relevance of the candidate and research description;
– Novelty of the candidate’s PhD thesis;
– Strength of the recommendation letter;
– Anticipated academic potential;
– Originality and impact of the research.
Prizes:
– Bonus (CHF 1000);

– Offer to publish a featured paper in Medicina with the article processing charge (APC) waived for submission before 30 April 2024.

The 2021 Medicina Young Investigator Award is firstly granted to Dr. Veeru Kasivisvanathan, an Academic Urologist at University College London, UK, whose research focuses on prostate cancer. His work, which supports prostate MRI as an upfront diagnostic test in men with suspected prostate cancer, has contributed to the first main change in the way that we diagnose the disease for 30 years. His remarkable career achievements have led to major advancement in the field of medicine.
The 2021 Medicina Young Investigator Award is also granted to Dr. Andrea Cortegiani, Assistant Professor at the Department of Surgical Oncological and Oral Science at the University of Palermo, Italy, and anesthesiologist at the Department of Anesthesia Intensive Care and Emergency at the University Hospital Policlinico Paolo Giaccone, Palermo, Italy. Dr. Cortegiani has demonstrated strong expertise in research methodology and has produced significant advances in the fields of infections and sepsis in critically ill patients, noninvasive respiratory support and ethics in publishing.
The award consists of 2000 Swiss Francs and a waiver of the 1500 Swiss Francs article processing fee for a manuscript accepted for publication in Medicina.
