Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Spinal deformity surgery has evolved dramatically in recent decades. In addition to pediatric deformities, a trend of increasing adult deformities in thoraco-lumbar degenerative scoliosis and cervical kyphosis has been noted. Thoraco-lumbar deformities often involve severe lower back pain and quality of life disturbance, resisting against conservative treatment. Several studies suggest that surgical treatment effectively improves the patients’ quality of life. Although traditional posterior surgeries with osteotomies were highly invasive, the most recent minimally invasive approach has been reported to effectively decrease surgical complications. However, there are still controversies that exist in terms of the complexity of surgical procedures and limitations regarding deformity correction. This Special Issue focuses on the recent progress of spinal deformity surgery in terms of innovative techniques, instruments, materials, and related emerging technologies.
