Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Metabolic alterations have been associated with many pathophysiological conditions affecting skeletal muscle (including aging, cachexia, and atrophy). Moreover, the capability of skeletal muscle to reprogram its metabolic activity is crucial in the adaptation of this tissue to many systemic pathological disorders (including diabetes, cancer, and neurological diseases). However, in many cases, skeletal muscle metabolic alterations and the consequent reprogramming occurs through poorly defined molecular etiology.
In this scenario, characterizing the molecular players associated with the skeletal muscle adaptive response to different environmental changes and disclosing the mechanisms linking these factors might allow the identification of new potential diagnostic or therapeutic targets for systemic diseases.
In this Special Issue, we invite investigators to contribute the findings of their studies focused on comprehension of the molecular background of skeletal muscle metabolic impairment and reprogramming in various pathophysiological conditions. Articles about the use of skeletal muscle metabolic alterations as a biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis, or as a potential target for therapeutical intervention are also invited. Original work, as well as reviews, are welcome.
