Dear Colleagues,
Over the last several decades, exercise has been identified as a critical integrative approach for the primary and secondary prevention of solid tumors and heme-based malignancies. Additionally, the literature also supports the use of exercise in the prevention of or recovery from cancer and treatment-associated side effects, namely cardiotoxicities. The overwhelming number of published studies in this area, while mostly descriptive, provide the foundation for more in-depth analysis of the mechanisms by which exercise promotes cancer survivorship. In this Special Issue, we hope to dive deeper into understanding how exercise augments metabolic pathways associated with cancer onset and progression while also attempting to explain the mechanisms by which exercise protects against cardiotoxicities and promotes recovery. Studies utilizing cell culture, animal models, and clinical trials that cover (but are not limited to) the topics on the metabolic analysis of tumorigenesis and cardiooncology using omics-based approaches, biological pathways analysis, and interactions between other physiological processes and metabolism are needed to address the gaps in our science.
