Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electrification in transportation is fundamental for reducing the massive amount of carbon emissions caused by this sector. Consequently, at present, the involved industrial and academic players are forced to face challenging issues related to the transition toward sustainable transportation systems.

This Special Issue invites original research applications of batteries for powering light and heavy-duty vehicles, aircraft, ships, and construction equipment. Thus, the term "transportation" is used in a general way. Scientific papers should address issues related to active materials, numerical modeling, system integration, system and electrochemical device architectures (also considering hybrid power systems), thermal management, energy management, test protocols, diagnostic, and recharging infrastructures, particularly if these are based on renewable energy sources.

In summary, research papers related to this 'dynamic' application are highly recommended for offering a comprehensive view of the green transition’s biggest challenges. Moreover, the Special Issue also accepts reviews and articles on the state of the art.

There are no limitations on the technologies; papers can range from lithium to metal‒air and flow batteries, to name the most popular ones. The only constraint is the applications mentioned above.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Batteries’ active materials;
  • Thermal, power, and charge management;
  • Battery management;
  • Battery engineering;
  • Battery charging;
  • Battery testing;
  • System modeling, integration, and power management;
  • System architecture and engineering;
  • Recharging infrastructures.

I look forward to receiving your kind contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
