Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are thrilled to announce a Special Issue entitled “Epigenetics of Brain Function and Diseases”. This Special Issue aims to explore the role of epigenetic mechanisms in regulating gene expression in the brain, and how alterations in these mechanisms can contribute to the development of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

The Special Issue will include papers that discuss the various epigenetic modifications involved in brain development and function, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNA regulation. It also covers studies that examine how these modifications are influenced by environmental factors such as stress, diet, and drug use.

Some of the specific topics covered in this Special Issue include the epigenetic regulation of neuronal development and maturation, synaptic plasticity, the role of epigenetics in addiction and substance abuse, and the potential for epigenetic therapies for treating neurological and psychiatric disorders. Topics of interest may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Epigenetic mechanisms regulating neural development;
  2. Epigenetic alterations in psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia and depression;
  3. Epigenetic changes associated with neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease;
  4. Novel therapeutic approaches targeting epigenetic modifications in neurological disorders.

Overall, this Special Issue provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of research into the epigenetics of brain function and disease. We welcome original research articles, reviews, communications, and perspectives from researchers in related research fields. We look forward to your contributions!

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
