Dear Colleagues,
The immune system reacts with pathogens and with unwanted self-components with different types of activation. In the case of pathology, inflammation can be chronic with severe systemic innate and adaptive immune manifestations, and inflammation can be below grade, hidden, or locally restricted. Our Special Issue is dedicated to understanding how exogenous and endogenous danger signals can drive metabolic changes in the immune system, and how the pathological metabolism can predispose our body to overlook the pathogen attack of endogenous danger or to overreact to these factors. It is of particular importance due to the current epidemiological situation that demonstrates that the human organism can overact to the respiratory virus SARC-CoV2 by a cytokine storm, and this severity of pathology is amplified in patients with metabolic syndrome and/or diabetes.
