Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Clays represent one of the most versatile and interdisciplinary fields of study in the Earth sciences. Their wide variety of species, coupled with their wide distribution and occurrence both on the surface and in the subsurface, provides the potential for a range of scientific and applied investigations. On the surface, they are practically omnipresent, especially due to their close relationship and reactivity with the hydroclimatic dynamics of modern environments. In the subsurface, they can be traced back to the processes and paths of reactions caused by fluids associated with the formation and transformation of rocks.

Throughout the evolution of the sciences, they have been exponents, from their first applications as auxiliary material in the early days of humanity to their most varied uses in various segments of industry and technology today. Understanding them, from the large scale, in the field of terrestrial tectonics and even in interplanetary sciences, to the nanoscale, poses major analytical challenges and should result in significant and increasingly urgent advances in today’s society.

The Special Issue on New Insights Into Clay Minerals: Properties and Applications, promoted by the journal Applied Sciences, will be open to contributions from various areas of knowledge that contribute to the challenges of mineralogical and chemical characterization, behavioral and property tests, as well as the applications of clay minerals around the world.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
