Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Over the last four decades, hydroinformatics has emerged as an important scientific field that emcompasses and combines knowledge from various disciplines associated with technological innovations for the benefit of improving our understanding and the development of novel procedures for sustainable water management. From its historical focus on hydrology and hydraulics modeling, hydroinformatics has gradually adressed a wider spectrum of water-related issues, including their social dimensions. Today, most water management actions rely on hydroinformatic methods and tools that are able to deal with the complexity of water environments and to provide more efficient solutions to the society’s problems. The emergence of new modeling and analysis methods based on high-resolution information from smart devices and data acquisition systems using advanced computing techniques, such as artificial intelligence, cloud-based computational resources, and vizualisation methods (VR/AR), offers great opportunities for developing a new generation of hydroinformatics solutions that is needed for improving our capability in water management in the context of environmental and societal changes.

The main purpose of this Special Issue is to propose a collection of selected original papers presenting the state-of-the-art review of recent advances and emerging challenges  in the application of hydroinformatics in water management. Papers are particularly solicited to provide prespectives linked to new theoretical developments, improvements of communication protocoles and computational resources, operational implementation in water services, and integration of social and environmental needs. In addition, papers focused on novel concepts and innovative approaches and tools will be greatly appreciated.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
