Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

A Special Issue will be devoted to the problems of statics and nonlinear dynamics of beam-plate-shell structures. Such structures, as elements of macro-, micro-, and nanostructures, are widely used in such important areas as instrument engineering, aerospace industry, high-tech healthcare, medical instrumentation, etc. Experimental and theoretical works devoted to full-scale experiments, mathematical modeling of the behavior of these mechanical systems under the various types of loads and fields influence: temperature, electric, magnetic, noise and others, are welcome, and the issues of symmetric and asymmetric stability loss of mechanical structures are considered. The works devoted to theoretical studies of the mechanical structures behavior taking into account elastic, elastic–plastic deformations, destruction, contact interaction of structures, connectivity of deformation fields of nanostructures and temperature are accepted. The issue is devoted to, among other things, mathematical modeling in the field of biomechanics, the construction and justification of methods for nonlinear analysis of micro- and nano-materials, the study of mechanical structures from new nano-dimensional porous functional gradient materials.

The book will undoubtedly serve as a valuable guide for researchers interested in participating in this interdisciplinary field. In addition, it will be useful to encourage further experimental and theoretical research in the fields of numerical modeling mentioned above, which use mathematical and computer modeling.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

The problem of virtual sensor design for nonlinear systems under the disturbance is investigated. Two different mathematical techniques are used to solve the problem: the algebra of functions and the logic-dynamic approach. The first one allows obtaining a general solution while the second one produces a solution for nonlinear systems by linear algebra methods. The virtual sensors are designed to be insensitive to the disturbance based on invariant functions. They estimate the prescribed function of the original system state vector. The practical example illustrates theoretical results. Full article
