Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
It is estimated that around 60 million families around the world are involved in the production of natural fibers—of this total, about 45 million families are producing cotton, 6 million are producers of jute, kenaf and related fibers, about 5 million are wool producers, 1 million are involved in the production of coconut fiber, and another million are involved in other natural fibers, such as Pineapple, Hemp, Sisal and Seda.
The great diversity of natural fibers in existence makes this material extremely abundant; in addition, it has great potential for applications in the development of new construction materials. There are some possible applications of natural fibers in composite materials for civil construction purposes, for example, in cementitious matrices (mortars and concrete), geopolymers and ceramics.
The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight the progress in the use of natural fibers applied to cement, geopolymeric and ceramic materials, for civil construction applications.
The main topics covered in this Special Issue include (but are not limited to):
- Characterization of natural fibers to applied in constructions materials;
- New methodologies for treating natural fibers for applications in many different matrices;
- Durability of composite materials with natural fibers;
- Technological properties of composites with natural fibers;
- Environmental and economic perspective on the use of natural fibers;
- Innovative applications of natural fibers in the development of alternative materials.
Original studies and reviews on subjects, in addition to the aforementioned, that are deemed to contribute to an advance in the knowledge of sustainable materials with natural fibers and their applications are welcome in this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
