Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Multicomponent material systems can combine the advantage of different materials for demanding applications. Polymers are typically thermodynamically immiscible at the molecule level (i.e., heterophase polymer system) after mixing due to the lack of specific molecular interactions and the small change in entropy. However, because of the presence of interface and micro/macro-phase separated morphology, heterophase polymers provide great opportunities to create advanced structured materials for various applications, including high-performance bioplastics, porous materials, low-percolation conducting materials, smart structures, functional gels, etc. 

This Special Issue is designated to report on the recent development in heterophase polymer materials. In addition to the intrinsic nature of the components, the control of thermodynamics and kinetics are key in tailoring material structures to achieve desired properties. Materials of interest may include but are not limited to polymer blends (both melts and solutions), composites, foams, polyelectrolytes, and gels. A special focus will be on material multifunctionality, intelligence, energy, and sustainability to address the urgent need of our society.

Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
