Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Reusing alloys and special materials in metallurgy and foundries reduces production costs and enables the production of new technical materials.

The articles in this Special Issue aim to present the latest trends in the research and application of new technologies using special materials and methods for their processing and reuse. Therefore, the publications collected in this Special Issue should highlight advances in developing these technologies.

The topics of the submitted articles should relate to the development of new engineering materials, recovery methods for melting steel, new technologies for modifying molten steel, new processing techniques, and studies on microstructure and properties. Articles on the chemical compositions, melting processes, modification, structures, properties, and applications of new engineering materials are welcome.

Specialists in the fields of metallurgy, foundry, and materials technology expect that the studies and publications will provide answers to the hardest questions that they cannot solve. These include the following questions: Are there any methods available for recovering expensive alloy additives? If at all possible, where can special alloys be reused? Can newly developed manufacturing processes influence the alloy's microstructure, and with what consequences for the casting properties? Can metallurgical processes that utilize the technologies of recovery melting and the secondary recycling of scrap as well as mold materials influence the microstructure of the final products? Bearing in mind that each of the above-mentioned factors and production stages can affect the microstructure, properties, and quality of finished castings, we invite you to share your latest achievements and research results in the field of recycling with other scientists who are solving problems in the metallurgy and foundry industries.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
