Materials received its first Impact Factor (1.677).

Materials announced the first edition of the Best Paper award.
The Impact Factor increased to 2.247.
Materials published its 1,000th paper.
2014 Materials received its new Impact Factor (1.879).
2015 Materials received its new Impact Factor (2.651).
2016 Materials was indexed in PubMed.

Materials received its 2017 Impact Factor (2.467).
The year 2018 marks the 10th Anniversary of Materials.
2019 Materials published its 10,000th paper.
Materials adopted a semi-monthly publication schedule.
The Portuguese Materials Society (SPM) became affiliated to Materials.
The Manufacturing Engineering Society (MES) became affiliated to Materials.
Prof. John B. Goodenough, the 2019 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, authored a review paper on "Advanced Electrodes for High Power Li-ion Batteries" in Materials in 2013.

- Electronic Materials.
The Impact Factor increased to 2.972.
2020 The Impact Factor increased to 3.057.
2021 Materials established the following sections:
Advanced and Functional Ceramics and Glasses;

- Quantum Materials.
- Structure Analysis and Characterization was renamed as Advanced Materials Characterization.
Materials received its first CiteScore (2021) of 4.2.
The Impact Factor increased to 3.623.
2022 The Impact Factor increased to 3.748.
Materials received its CiteScore (2021) of 4.7, ranked 159/455 in “General Materials Science”.
Materials established the following section:
- Green Materials.
2023 Materials received its 2022 Impact Factor (3.4).
Materials received its CiteScore (2022) of 5.2, ranked 163/453 in “General Materials Science”.
- Optics and Photonics was renamed as Optical and Photonic Materials.
