The present and future in the control of the progression of myopia, a challenge of the 21st century.

The World Health Organization has warned about a new pandemic for the 21st century, myopia. It is expected that, in 2050, half of the world's population will be myopic, with 80% being adolescent myopes, and at least one in two will exceed the values considered pathological and will be severely myopic. High myopia increases the risk of developing eye diseases such as glaucoma, retinal detachment, or optic nerve atrophy, leading to irreversible visual loss, the outcome of which is blindness. "I Congreso en Optica, Optometria y Ciencias de la Visión" (COptUZ-24) will focus on all the possible strategies to control the progression of myopia.
