Dear Colleagues,
Gliomas represent the most common brain tumors affecting both children and adults. Glioblastoma multiforme is the most common and aggressive form of glioma, and it is characterized by high recurrence incidence and poor prognosis due to the presence of a highly heterogeneous mass of a stem cells with self‑renewal capacity and maintenance of stemness. Despite their diversification, gliomas share the tendency of being refractory to radical surgical resection, and radio-chemotherapy often results ineffective because of resistance mechanisms. In this scenario, in order to identify novel therapeutic avenues, it is urgent to reach an in-depth knowledge about the genetic and epigenetic landscapes, signaling pathways, metabolic alterations and environmental effects involved in glioma biology.
This Special Issue focuses on the current understanding about glioma pathogenesis, ranging from genome alterations to aberrant signalling pathways, with the eye on the development of novel therapeutic approaches aimed at improving the current standard care. Original articles as well as short reports and up-to-date reviews are encouraged, in order to provide a comprehensive knowledge of the state of the art and future directions.
