Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Dr. Bonglee Kim (Guest Editor, College of Korean Medicine, Kyung Hee University, Seoul 02447, Republic of Korea) and Dr. Mohammed DALLI (<> GE assistant, Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, University Mohammed The First, Oujda 60000, Morocco) are delighted to announce this new Special Issue, entitled "Bioactive Substances of Plant Origin and Their Pharmacological Effects", in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (IJMS), which focuses on exploring the fascinating world of bioactive compounds from plants and their impacts on human health and future perspectives in modern medicine.

Medicinal and aromatic plants have been used as therapeutic agents known as bioactive compounds. These phytocompounds, which are derived from plants, are endowed with exceptional pharmacological effects that have been extensively investigated for their potential use in modern medicine, with a focus on the mechanism of action supporting the obtained pharmacological effects exhibited by these bioactive compounds and their possible applications in different fields. This Special Issue focuses on the most recent advances discoveries, and problems relating to plant-derived bioactive compounds.

We encourage academics, scientists, and researchers from different fields such as pharmacology, botany, natural product chemistry, and related topics to contribute high-quality original research articles, and reviews to this Special Issue. Topics of interest to this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Isolation, characterization, and synthesis of bioactive substances from plants.
  2. Pharmacological effects and mechanisms of action of plant bioactive compounds.
  3. Exploration of traditional medicine and ethnopharmacology in the context of plant-based therapies.
  4. Bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, and drug delivery systems for plant's bioactive compounds.
  5. Phytochemical profiling and metabolomics approaches to identify bioactive compounds.
  6. Novel drug discovery and development from plant sources.
  7. Biotechnological approaches for the production and optimization of plant-based compounds.
  8. Plant-based remedies for chronic diseases, cancer, inflammation, neurodegenerative disorders, and other health conditions.

This Special Issue aims to provide valuable insights into the world of plant-derived compounds and their large spectrum of effects, as well as a deep understanding of the therapeutic potential of the different bioactive compounds, encouraging the continued development of the field, and promoting their use in modern medicine. Please note that this Special Issue is focused on molecular research; therefore, pure clinical research will not be accepted. However, clinical submissions with biomolecular experiments are welcomed.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
