Dear Colleagues,
Despite more than 100 years of mitochondrial research, it can appear surprising that our understanding of chemical energy transfer in health and disease is incomplete. The described differences in function of mitochondria and energy transfer pathways between the energy production and energy consumption sites are directly related to distinct structural organization of these cells. The Special Issue entitled “Energy Transfer and Mitochondrial Biology” aims to stimulate comprehensive research for a better understanding of mitochondrial energy production and transfer. The results will give the basis for understanding of many cellular pathologies of heart like ischemia, heart failure, myocardial infarction, mechanisms of ischemia-reperfusion injury, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
