Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Lipids play a fundamental role in numerous aspects of cellular function, and their influence on the immune system has emerged as a captivating area of research. The interplay between lipids and immunity has garnered considerable attention due to its significant implications in various physiological and pathological processes. Further, the role of lipids in the resolution of inflammation has emerged as a crucial area of investigation within the field of immunology. Lipids, which encompass diverse classes such as eicosanoids, sphingolipids, endocannabinoids, lyso-phospholipids, and others bioactive lipids, play multifaceted roles in orchestrating the delicate balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory responses during infection and immune reactions. Investigating this balance of lipid mediators can serve as biomarkers to assess the resolution of inflammation and the response to infectious diseases. Manipulating lipid composition, altering lipid-metabolizing enzymes, or administering specific lipid mediators offer promising strategies for controlling inflammation and enhancing the resolution of infectious diseases. The goal of this Special Issue is to explore and unravel the complex relationship between lipids and the immune system, shedding light on the molecular mechanisms underlying lipid–immune interactions, as well as their impact on health and disease. Continued research in this field will undoubtedly pave the way for innovative therapeutic interventions targeting lipid–immune interactions to foster resolution and healing.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  1. Lipid metabolism and immune cell function;
  2. Lipid signaling in immune regulation;
  3. Lipids in inflammation and autoimmune diseases;
  4. Lipid mediators and their role in immunomodulation;
  5. Lipid-protein interactions in immunity;
  6. Lipids in infectious diseases and host defense;
  7. Lipidomic approaches in immunology research;
  8. Lipids and immunotherapy;
  9. Lipid nanoparticles in vaccine development;
  10. Lipid-related biomarkers of immune response.

Prospective authors are encouraged to submit their original research articles, comprehensive review papers, or mini-reviews through the journal's online submission system. All submitted manuscripts would undergo rigorous peer review to ensure the highest scientific quality and relevance to the scope.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
