Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The proposed Special Issue titled “Recent Advances in Antimicrobial Nanoparticles” aims to explore the latest developments, innovations, and applications in the field of antimicrobial nanoparticles. Nanotechnology has emerged as a promising avenue in combating microbial infections, offering unique advantages such as enhanced antimicrobial activity, targeted delivery, and reduced toxicity compared to conventional antimicrobial agents. This Special Issue seeks to showcase cutting-edge research, methodologies, and advancements in the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of antimicrobial nanoparticles across various disciplines.

The scope of this Special Issue encompasses, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  • Synthesis and design of antimicrobial nanoparticles: Novel approaches and methodologies for the synthesis, fabrication, and functionalization of antimicrobial nanoparticles.
  • Characterization techniques: Advanced characterization techniques to elucidate the physicochemical properties, structure, and morphology of antimicrobial nanoparticles.
  • Mechanisms of action: Investigations into the mechanisms underlying the antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles, including their interactions with microbial cells and biofilms.
  • Biocompatibility and toxicity studies: Evaluation of the biocompatibility, cytotoxicity, and safety profiles of antimicrobial nanoparticles for potential therapeutic applications.
  • Targeted delivery systems: Development of targeted delivery systems utilizing antimicrobial nanoparticles for site-specific treatment of infections.
  • Multifunctional nanoparticles: Exploration of multifunctional nanoparticles with combined antimicrobial and therapeutic properties, such as wound healing, imaging, and drug delivery.
  • Applications in biomedicine: Clinical applications of antimicrobial nanoparticles in treating bacterial, viral, and fungal infections, as well as in medical devices and diagnostics.
  • Environmental applications: Utilization of antimicrobial nanoparticles for environmental remediation, water treatment, and antimicrobial coatings.
  • Challenges and future perspectives: Discussions on the current challenges, limitations, and future directions in the development and application of antimicrobial nanoparticles.

This Special Issue welcomes original research articles, reviews, perspectives, and communications from researchers and experts working in academia, industry, and governmental institutions, aiming to provide a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in antimicrobial nanoparticles.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
