Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Current globalization has resulted in Western societies with citizens of diverse religious and social characteristics.

This diversity is transferred to the classroom, where inclusive education is shown to be the best way to advocate for the educational integration of students belonging to minority social groups.

However, prejudice and intolerance often lead to conflict among students. Even in the most extreme situations, bullying or cyberbullying can occur through digital media.

Cyberbullying also aggravates the situation of the victim, as texts written on the Internet are long in duration, reach a larger number of people, and are not only found in the school context.

In this Issue we intend to address the cyberbullying phenomenon towards minority social groups in high school and in higher education, trying to understand continuity and discontinuity in the dynamics across these two developmental and educational contexts.  Research stemming from different fields and perspectives is encouraged.

This manuscript examined the role trait verbal aggression plays in cyberbullying victimization and perpetration in adolescence. More than 400 middle school students (46.8% males and 52.2% females) completed a questionnaire on trait verbal aggression and their history of cyberbullying perpetration and victimization. Linear regression analyses revealed that trait verbal aggression was a statistically significant predictor of both cyberbullying perpetration and victimization, that cyberbullying perpetration and cyberbullying victimization are related, and that cyberbullying perpetration appears to increase with age, while cyberbullying victimization does not. Ideas and implications for future applications of verbal aggression and cyberbullying are discussed. Full article
