Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The conversion of the kinetic energy of water currents into electricity is an increasingly important research area. Recent research has focused on microgeneration systems suitable for onshore/coastal sites, where the kinetic energy present in watercourses can be captured. Their location allows the energy generated to be harnessed at nearby consumption points, thereby reducing the associated investment and operating costs as well as leading to a low environmental impact. Factors such as blockage caused by the layout of the microturbines can increase the amount of energy available. In addition, low-cost device construction and affordable maintenance and operation are essential for cost-effectiveness.

This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate knowledge on the most recent advancements related to the theory, design, modelling, application, control, and condition monitoring of all types of microgeneration systems from water currents.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Innovative experimental methodologies related to tidal microgeneration systems under laboratory conditions;
  2. Numerical modelling methodologies using advanced computational methods;
  3. Development and validation of available resource assessment tools;
  4. Climate change and its effects on tidal microgeneration, and resilience of technology;
  5. Ecohydraulics: tidal microgeneration smart grids and its effects on biological ecosystems;
  6. Innovation and development of tidal energy harvesting technologies, such as smart grids and test rigs;
  7. Remote sensing and post-processing methods using BigData and machine learning algorithms;
  8. Internet of Energy (IoE): data communication protocols and its relationship with tidal microgeneration systems;
  9. Computational intelligence applied to tidal microgeneration energy: genetic algorithms (GAs), system analysis and advanced optimization methods.

We particularly encourage people involved in research activities in both technical and economic analysis related to hydrokinetic microgeneration systems to submit their manuscripts to this Special Issue.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
