Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In general comment No. 25 (2021) by the United Nations on children’s rights in relation to the digital environment, it is stated that even though the digital environment is not always designed for children, it often plays a significant role in their lives. Early childhood education is an important space for nurturing democratic values as well as promoting equity. Teaching and learning with digital resources in education is an area of interest that has been studied in various ways. In this Special Issue, the focus lies on teaching and learning with digital resources in preschool and kindergarten.

The aim and scope of this Special Issue is to gather studies that focus on education with younger children (aged 1–6), where various forms of digital resources are used in a variety of ways. Digital resources are not limited to screens; instead, research on robotics, digital microscopes, digital cameras, etc., are also encouraged. 

Themes that are welcome to this Special Issue include:

-Empirical studies on preschool children’s interaction with digital resources;

-Empirical studies on teachers’ use of digital resources in preschool, kindergarten or childcare;

-Studies on teachers’ experiences and perceptions of digital resources in preschool, kindergarten or childcare, e.g., interview studies or focus groups;

-Research overviews/reviews on digital resources in preschool;

-Netnographic studies on digital resources in preschool;

-Studies on education in subjects such as Mathematics, Language, Coding, Science, Arts and Sports with digital resources.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. Education Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
