Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The research fields of new sustainable processes and the replacement of non-renewable sources/materials with renewable ones are gaining major importance on a global scale, regarding the main goals of sustainable development, mainly in the industrial and transportation sectors.

New green technological processes (thermochemical, biochemical and electrochemical) using biocatalysts or new micro-/nanocatalysts are the focus of this Special Issue.

This Special Issue will present the most recent and significant developments related to new sustainable materials (catalysts, raw materials, etc.), as well as new sustainable processes, suitable for green chemistry purposes, with potential industrial applications. Renewable energy resources, including biomass compounds and biomaterials, are also relevant for this Special Issue. Original papers on the above topics and short reviews are welcome for submission.

Title: Development of nano catalysts from Calcium waste materials in biodiesel production

Abstract: Then, a nanocatalyst precursor, calcium acetate, was produced from the same eggshells used before. This precursor was then applied in an SAS (supercritical antisolvent) precipitation apparatus to control its particle size. After the precipitation, the precursor was calcined to convert it into nano-structured calcium oxide. This Nano CaO was likewise characterized using the same techniques as the aforementioned benchmark, as well as Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) to determine the chemical components present. The observed structure of this solid resembles the benchmark very much. However, the particle sizes are smaller, ranging from 23 to 453 nm (average of 77 nm) and have a specific area of 315.7 m2/g, which meant that an increase of specific surface area by decreasing the particle size was achieved. Regarding catalyst activity, a small amount of Nano CaO was tested at the same conditions as before, and the best results showed an increase of 9% in transesterification reaction yield.
