Dear Colleagues,

Mesoporous material refers to a type of porous material with a pore diameter of 2–50 nm with the characteristics of a large specific surface area, easily modifiable inner and outer surfaces, and tunable pore size and pore channels. Mesoporous materials represent a large group of different types of materials including silicas, organosilicas, metal oxides, metals, carbons, zeolites, metal- and covalent-organic frameworks and hybrid composites, and thus, they have emerged as an important branch of materials for the chemical research.

The presence of mesopores facilitates the rapid diffusion of macromolecules and reduces resistance to mass transfer, and larger specific surface areas increase the concentration of catalytic active centers on the surfaces, making mesoporous materials with functional mesopores ideal catalysts and carriers. In fact, mesoporous materials have attracted intensive attention for a variety of applications such as catalytic degradation, energy conversion/storage, acid catalysis, hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, esterification, and condensation reactions, etc. Therefore, many precise manipulations and structural engineering strategies have been applied to construct advanced mesoporous materials with excellent catalytic activity and shape selectivity.

Researchers have emphasized the exploration of the design and synthesis of mesoporous materials with tailored properties to address specific catalytic challenges, as well as large-scale synthesis to meet the demand of green chemistry. The efficacy of this research to both fundamental science and industrial applications is important and has been burgeoning.

This Special Issue will help to collect the latest progress and examples of mesoporous material research with a combination of purposeful synthesis and advanced characterization, intended for an in-depth or improved understanding of structural morphology and material properties of mesoporous solids, and hence of the way in which they impact catalytic reactions. All articles concerning the development of new synthetic strategies and the advanced characterization of mesoporous materials, hierarchical materials containing at least one mesopore network, structure-functionalized mesoporous materials, catalytic application of mesoporous materials, and theoretical modelling of confined systems are welcome, but researchers are not restricted to these topics.
