Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Antibiotic strategies in animals and humans have been used to prevent pathogenic diseases and to control microbiota. Although antibiotics have played many roles in inhibiting pathogenic diseases, alternative strategies to control microorganisms are needed due to the emergence of drug-resistant strains and the increasing regulation of and public concerns regarding drug residues in animal products. To date, considerable efforts have been focused on antimicrobial reagents, including natural and synthetic compounds, as alternatives to antibiotics. These antimicrobial compounds are being used in some clinical applications. Generally, antimicrobial compounds function directly on pathogenic microorganisms and/or indirectly through the host’s immune system. Although a considerable amount of research has been conducted in various fields on these antimicrobial compounds, in the context of immunity, they are still open to investagation. This Special Issue of Biomedicines provides an overview of recent research highlights on the immunity or anti-inflammatory effects of structure-identified antimicrobial compounds as alternative medicine. Thus, this special issue will cover topics including, but not limited to following keywords:

  • immunity of antimicrobial compounds
