Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sex-based differences in pathophysiology, disease incidence, drug pharmacodynamics/kinetics, response to treatment and related toxicity have been reported. However, underrepresentation of women has been noted in several clinical trials, and data regarding sex are rarely reported in clinical settings. For women, factors such as body size and composition, hormonal variations, metabolism and access to care systems and therapy can strongly influence pharmacological management and treatment outcomes. Differences between the two sexes play an important role in terms of risk factors for the incidence and prevalence of numerous diseases. A gender-based approach should be treated a pivotal tool, optimizing treatment in each patient for each condition.

The Special Issue “Gender medicine and pharmacology” will focus on molecular, cellular and genetic differences in terms of incidence, pathology, physiology and treatment between male, female and genderfluid people. This Special Issue is open for basic to clinical research, or multi-disciplinary approaches.
