Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Coatings have become increasingly important in engineering and industry, as they provide enhanced surface properties such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and improved tribological behavior. Among the various types of coatings, alloy coatings with advanced design concepts have emerged as a promising option due to their superior mechanical and chemical properties.

This Special Issue focuses on the microstructure and tribological properties of alloy coatings. The microstructure of coatings plays a critical role in determining their mechanical and tribological behavior. Therefore, the articles in this Special Issue present research on the microstructural characterization of various alloy coatings using advanced techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Furthermore, the tribological properties of alloy coatings are also discussed in this Special Issue. Tribology is the study of the friction, wear, and lubrication of contacting surfaces in relative motion. The articles in this Special Issue cover research on the tribological behavior of various alloy coatings under different situations, especially in extreme working conditions.

Overall, this Special Issue brings together a collection of original research articles and review papers on alloy coating microstructure and tribological properties. We hope that this Special Issue will serve as a valuable resource for researchers and engineers working in the field of coatings and tribology, as well as for students and academics interested in this exciting area of materials science.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
