Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The remarkable properties of high-entropy alloys (HEAs), which include exceptional strength, enhanced hardness, and superior thermal stability, are redefining the potential of advanced coating materials. HEAs, characterized by their multi-principal element composition, offer a paradigm shift in coating technologies that may contribute to the advancement of surface engineering applications. This Special Issue, "Advances in High-Entropy Alloy Coatings: Preparation, Properties, and Applications", invites contributions that highlight the latest developments in HEA coatings, including their preparation, characterization, performance, and application.

The scope of this Special Issue encompasses a broad spectrum of topics and research directions, including but not limited to:

  • The synthesis and preparation methods of HEA coatings;
  • Advanced characterization techniques for exploring the microstructure and composition of HEA coatings;
  • The mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties of HEA coatings;
  • Performance evaluation of HEA coatings in extreme environments;
  • Applications of HEA coatings in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and energy;
  • Novel approaches to enhance the functional performance of HEA coatings;
  • Interdisciplinary studies involving the use of HEA coatings for environmental and sustainable applications.

We welcome original research articles that provide new insights into the preparation, properties, and applications of HEA coatings. The integration of experimental and computational studies to further our understanding of the intrinsic characteristics of HEAs will particularly be appreciated.

This Special Issue aims to serve as a conduit for scientists and engineers to disseminate their cutting-edge research, fostering the exchange of ideas and catalyzing further advancements in the field of high-entropy alloy coatings.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
