Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the past two decades, coronaviruses have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to threaten worldwide human health. The outbreak of the 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease (COVID-19) pandemic has determined the necessity to develop rapid, effective anti-viral agents. Since contamination by COVID-19 can persist for days on inanimate surfaces, and because it is more transmissible compared to other coronaviruses, surface disinfectants and nanomaterials with antiviral activity are important components within the mix of strategies to prevent transmission. Currently, many different antiviral agents, including re-purposed drugs, are under testing in clinical trials to assess their efficacy against the new virus, but the quest for efficient treatments against COVID-19 is still open. Nanotechnology offers innovative solutions to a wide range of problems regarding the prevention and diagnosis to limit the virus spread. In order to understand current knowledge associated with the spread of COVID-19 and how nanotechnology principles can be used to prevent its transmission, Applied Sciences has launched a Special Issue on COVID-19 titled ‘The Role of Nanotechnology and Applied Nanosciences in the Fight against COVID-19.

In this Special Issue we seek papers from authorities in the following areas of expertise:

  • Medical sciences (especially epidemiologists and experts in viruses);
  • Pharmaceutical sciences;
  • Experimental treatments;
  • Manufacturers of treatments;
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) and their manufacture;
  • Medical devices;
  • Nanotechnologists;
  • Nanomaterials;
  • Nanosensors.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form.
