Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Antibiotics continue to serve as a fundamental therapeutic approach for addressing numerous skin diseases. However, their application is accompanied by formidable challenges and potential consequences within dermatological practice. These encompass the emergence of antibiotic resistance, leading to diminished efficacy and the possible development of superinfections. Furthermore, there is a recognized impact on the delicate equilibrium of the skin microbiome, alongside concerns regarding adverse drug reactions and overall patient safety associated with antibiotic use.

In response to these challenges, considerable attention is directed towards the development of novel antibiotics as well as the exploration of alternative therapeutic modalities that minimize the use of antibiotics and combination treatments. Integral to this endeavor is the concept of antibiotic stewardship, which prioritizes the judicious and optimized use of antibiotics to mitigate resistance development and ensure the enduring effectiveness of these agents for future generations.

This Special Issue aims to encompass a comprehensive examination of the challenges and advancements in antibiotic therapy for skin diseases. This Special Issue seeks to explore the multifaceted aspects of antibiotic use in dermatology, including mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, the impact on the skin microbiome, and strategies for optimizing antibiotic stewardship. Furthermore, it aims to highlight emerging research on novel antibiotics, alternatives to antibiotics in comparison to standard antibiotic therapy, and combination treatments for various dermatological conditions. By providing a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and dissemination of cutting-edge research, this Special Issue endeavors to advance our understanding of antibiotic therapy in dermatology and its implications for clinical practice and public health. In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
