Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The study improves precision and effectiveness for industrial sustainable development by introducing a novel framework for examining industrial spatial agglomeration patterns.

The Research paper provides respectable findings and is well-written, but before it is accepted, it needs to be strengthened in the following ways:

The author should provide the quantitative result in the abstract section.

The introduction could be expanded, and more related research sources should be cited. The author may use the following sources: https://doi.org/10.3390/su151511660 and DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/B978-0-443-15847-6.00010-0

The author should elaborate on how the proposed framework differs from existing methods for analyzing industrial spatial agglomeration patterns.

The author should explain the key features of the MCLM-LDO method, and how do they contribute to improving accuracy, efficiency, and objective parameter settings.

The author should explain how applying this framework in the computer, communication, and electronic equipment manufacturing industry in Guangdong Province contributes to sustainable industrial development.

The author should detail the main findings and insights from the application of the proposed framework, as well as any limitations or challenges encountered.

The author should describe what are the implications the findings of this study have for policymakers, urban planners, and stakeholders involved in industrial development and spatial planning.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

The paper requires careful polishing of its English presentation, addressing grammatical issues,  and addressing typos and poorly written sentences.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

In this paper, the authors propose a novel local Duranton and Overman (LDO) index and introduce it with a threshold selection strategy into the multi-scale cluster location mining method (called MCLM-LDO method). A new framework based on the MCLM-LDO method for analyzing industrial spatial agglomeration patterns is proposed subsequently, which can consider agglomeration degrees and cluster locations of industries at the same time. Experiments are conducted on two synthetic datasets to show the better accuracy, distance parameters setting and calculation efficiency of the MCLM-LDO method. The proposed framework is also applied on the actual dataset to analyze the industrial spatial agglomeration patterns. Overall, this paper is well organized and clear, but there are also some problems that need attention, as follows:

1. It is suggested to provide some examples to make it easier to follow the paper and understand it, especially in the methodology part.

2. The definition of the LDO index needs more explanation. Why the LDO index is described as Equation (4)? Why does the parameter d represent spatial scale in DO index but d^ represent peak distance in the LDO index?

3. Ensure the precision of writing expression. For example, on page 5, line 184 to 187, the local scale parameter hi is calculated using Equation (2) without using the localization index curves as mentioned in the following paragraph.

4. Some typos should be checked and corrected. For example, on page 16, line 452, the second d^ should be h^. The submission should be carefully checked.

5. The layout of Figures 4, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14 and Table 5, 6 need to be attended to.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

Pay attention to grammar and readability of the paper. Some sentence is hard to understand.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The paper introduces a novel method for analyzing industrial agglomeration patterns, addressing some of the limitations of existing techniques. By considering both agglomeration degrees and cluster locations simultaneously, it offers a more holistic understanding of spatial patterns.

The systematic approach used in the study offers a methodological rigor that enhances its credibility. Moreover, the paper provides interesting insight that can help policy-making and urban planning decisions.

Nevertheless, the paper lacks sufficient context regarding the study site and its associated challenges, which may hinder comprehension for readers unfamiliar with the area. Providing additional information about the study site would enhance clarity and facilitate a better understanding of the research context. Additionally, incorporating a brief discussion from social, cultural, and environmental perspectives on the benefits or obstacles of utilizing spatial analysis could enrich the paper. Such insights could shed light on how the proposed framework interacts with wider societal, cultural, and environmental factors, extending its implications beyond purely economic considerations. However, while these topics are pertinent, they could be explored in future research endeavors.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

It is an interesting work, and the manuscript is well-organized and innovative. However, some issues still should be addressed. Thus this manuscript can be accepted after a revision:

1.      The author's introduction needs to be optimized, and we suggest that the author evaluate what needs to be improved in the introduction according to the following criteria.

·       What is the problem to be solved?

·       Are there any existing solutions?

·       Which is the best?

·       What is the main limitation of the best and existing approaches?

·       What do you hope to change or propose to make it better?

·       How is the paper structured?

2.      The manuscript uses 6 years for analysis, why only has the 2022 enterprise spatial distribution map?

3.      I suggest the author/s demonstrate what does the manuscript adds to the current literature, and what new knowledge is added by this study?

4.      Clearly describe the existing challenges and explore the direction and significance of future research and application scenarios.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article provides a new method for examining interactions between industrial entities and their geographic distribution.  The idea and method are presented in an understandable way.  Unfortunately, some important elements are imported from previous methods without appropriate explanation.  A reader interested in the topic, but not knowing previous publications, will require explanations of the functions and indexes used.

The discussion part should be extended by noting how much the method might be applicable (or not) in areas under different economical systems or for different industries.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

English language is generally clear and understandable.  Minor problems have been spotted, such as using “the” when a subjects was not previously presented (such situation in line 273 makes the reader search where such circle was described previously).  Also a sentence in line 367 is not finished.  Values in Table 5 should be presented with the same precision, improving the table’s readability.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article has a high level of content presentation and is transparent and understandable. The article proposes a new method and also presents its application with examples.

Since the article is primarily a discussion about the Patterns of Industrial Spatial Agglomeration analysis method, the introduction of the article lacks a clear justification for why such analyses are necessary and why they should be more accurate. In other words, what are the local or regional benefits of conducting good analyses of Patterns of Industrial Spatial Agglomeration?
