Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper presents a novel provenance solution for stream processing systems that combines offline and online parts. The article is well written and well organized. However, some issues should be addressed.

  • When the authors summarized the main contributions of the work, they should present how they filled the research gaps.
  • The authors should present the meaning of the acronym DSP in the abstract. It helps readers of the journal who are searching for papers in this area.
  • In the conclusion section, the authors should include a summarized quantitative analysis and compare their results with the literature.
  • Table 2 is exceeding the PDF margins.
  • Table 4 caption is not left-aligned.

Dear Authors,

It is a great effort and the case study is well presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the whole s2p solution. Please make the following changes in the paper.

  1. Ref are not cited in an adequate manner. No sequence is followed.

    2. Add more Summary of features in general-purpose data processing systems with provenance support (table 2)

    3. Limitations of this work are not highlighted.

    4. Validation of the algorithm 1 (Checkpoint Determination Among Object Source Data) and algorithm 2 : (Source Data Caching and Purging Algorithm) is missing.

5. Link number 511, you mentioned that  (We choose s2p-flink as the experimental object and choose three applications working under various workloads) which one, can  you be more specific please?

6. Challenges include but are not limited to an optimization solution for avoiding excessive runtime overhead.. what other optimization solutions are available, please make a comparison table and comment on their pros and cons.
