Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to contribute to our upcoming Special Issue of Sustainability titled “Safety Risk Management of Hydraulic Engineering Operation”.

Hydraulic engineering has the special characteristics of a large scale, strong public welfare, a wide range of influence, and complex operation environment. The operation safety of hydraulic engineering involves many risk factors. It not only involves metal structures such as gates and opening and closing machinery, many kinds of equipment such as electrical equipment and special equipment, as well as structures such as reservoirs, dams, and traffic bridges, but also involves personnel activities such as engineering maintenance and inspection. In addition, it concerns unfavorable environments such as working at heights and water-facing work. It is necessary to fully analyze the above factors and carry out safety risk control in hydraulic engineering operation.

With the development of modern information technology, intelligent construction has become an important approach for the delicacy management of hydraulic engineering projects. The continuous emergence of modern remote sensing and monitoring technologies, such as satellite remote sensing, aerial remote sensing, UAV tilt photography, intelligent sensors, and the Internet of Things, provides advanced sensing means for the dynamic online monitoring of river basins and hydraulic engineering projects, as well as a technical driving force for intelligent analysis and efficient decision making for their safe operation. In particular, the digital twin technology would improve the guaranteed ability of safe operation and scientific and accurate decision-making of the hydraulic engineering project, so as to promote the digital, networking, and intelligent development of safety risk management in hydraulic engineering operation.

The Special Issue focuses on original research articles and comprehensive reviews regarding the safety risk management of hydraulic engineering operation. In this framework, both specialized and interdisciplinary manuscripts concerning the following topics are welcome, in addition to those addressing other related issues:

  • Safety risk management of hydraulic engineering;
  • Application of artificial intelligence method in hydraulic engineering risk management;
  • Sustainable risk of hydraulic engineering;
  • Risk management of hydraulic engineering based on remote sensing, intelligent sensors, Internet of Things, and digital twin.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
