Upcoming MDPI Conferences (1)

14 September 2023 The 10th World Sustainability Forum

The 10th World Sustainability Forum (WSF2023) will be a 24-hour event, held in 3 locations, as well as online. We believe that this will optimize worldwide participation in this global event.

The forum will have four main subjects distributed in three locations:
Kicking off in Singapore, the focus will be on sustainability for social community impact. We will then move onto Basel, where our Chairs will lead discussions on sustainability in the industry, and at university and corporate settings. Finally, our last hub in Toronto will focus on sustainability in the built environment.

WSF2023 is part of a global sustainability forum series that is organized by MDPI. As a hybrid event, it will provide scholars with the opportunity to attend the event in person at one of the three conference sites or, most sustainably, online. Arrangements have been made for a state-of-the-art online event.

We are particularly hoping to address STEM research with the social sciences and policy makers.

We look forward to welcoming you across the globe and virtually!

14–16 June 2023 Third World Science and Wine Congress

Porto, Portugal

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development aim to complement policy with scientific knowledge and orient government strategies toward a new development paradigm that improves the well-being of future generations, while ensuring the sustainable management of the planet’s natural resources. All this is even more important if viewed in the context of food systems, whose sustainability is paramount for sustainable development. Food sustainability for humans involves the ability, sustained over time, to produce or procure enough food to meet an individual’s or a population’s nutritional requirements, using production, distribution, and disposal systems that have a neutral or beneficial impact on the environment and ecosystems, and that ideally are underpinned by forms of social justice that can ensure equitable access to food. In this congress, we plan to discuss the importance of clarifying the meaning of being sustainable, as well as highlighting the complexity of the interactions and interrelationships between different variables, including the following:

  • The ecosystem within which wine/food is produced and the relevance of climate and climate change, air purity, sufficient water, water purity, the productivity of the soil, and appropriate recycling of waste materials.
  • Biodiversity as the variable to must be sustained, either in one place, in a region, or globally.
  • The human activities needed to produce wine/food.
  • How food production, distribution, preparation, consumption, and disposal can be sustained for future generations in the face of challenges such as population growth, climate, and environmental change, conflict, and deepening social and geographical inequalities.

In all cases, the interaction of factors adds complexity, which is why we stress the importance of not just multidisciplinary perspectives, but also the communication between incomplete disciplines through a cross-disciplinary approach.

It is against the backdrop of the urgent issues concerning global food sustainability that we decided to promote the 3rd World Science and Wine Congress under the topic “Sustainability of wine production and food systems in the Mediterranean region”. The Congress will take place in Porto/ Douro Region (Quinta do Ventozelo) from 14 to 16 June 2023.

The aim is to provide a scientific discussion of the challenges, constraints, and solutions necessary to maintain a healthy and accessible food supply in different communities around the world. We will address a wide range of issues related to the principles and practices of food security and sustainability, learning from the experience of the past, and exploring the global challenges of the new millennium to meet human nutritional requirements. This congress aims to discuss recent achievements in food systems and sustainability through the cooperation of many researchers in the fields of agricultural production with those working in food technology, nutrition, medicine, and public health.

The scientific program will be divided into the following four sections:

  1. Sustainable Viticulture and Winemaking Practices (Scientific Committee: Régis Gougeon, Cristina Carlos, Jorge Queiroz).
  2. Sustainable Food Systems and the Mediterranean Diet (Scientific Committee: Riccardo Valentini, Carlos Ribeiro, Ruth Pereira).
  3. Sustainable Wine Tourism and Mediterranean Gastronomy (Scientific Committee: Elisabeth Kastenholz, Alexandre Guedes, Amélia Brandão).
  4. Sustainable Mediterranean Diet: the Interaction between the Food Industry and Tourism, Nutrition, Health, and the Environment (Scientific Committee: Dominique Delmas, Ana Barros, Paula Silva).

The partners of this congress are University of Porto (UPorto), the University of Trás-os-Montes (UTAD), Vine and Wine Institute, I.P. (IVV), Association of Port Wine Companies (AEVP), Association of Wines and Spirits of Portugal (ACIBEV) and The Porto Protocol Foundation.

You can follow the conference on the conference webpage, where it is also possible to register for the conference.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Porto.

27–30 June 2023 The Second International Conference on Construction, Energy, Environment and Sustainability—CEES 2023

Funchal (Madeira Island), Portugal

The Second International Conference on Construction, Energy, Environment and Sustainability—CEES 2023 will take place in Funchal (Madeira Island), Portugal, from 27 to 30 June 2023 and is being organized by Itecons in collaboration with CONST-NRC (Canada). Globally, we are faced with resource scarcity, climate change, and increased urbanization. More than ever, there is a need to increase the sustainability of the built environment and construction activities.

As concerns regarding sustainability, efficiency, and wellbeing continue to grow, the construction industry must not only continue to embrace new technologies, processes, and materials but also continue to address the many challenges facing the existing building stock. The International CEES conference aims to bring together construction, energy and environment researchers, engineers, planners, stakeholders, and policy makers to address these challenges.

In order to achieve a sustainable built environment and a sustainable construction activity, professionals from a wide range of backgrounds need to work together, from researchers working on the development of innovative construction materials and technologies, on building physics and energy performance, or on studying the environmental effects of manmade infrastructure, to those working towards the adoption of the Industry 4.0 principles or those working in a more regional and urban scale, all the while without neglecting the social and economic aspects of sustainable construction and housing.

11–13 October 2023 54th Conference CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS ENGINEERING (IPB) 2023

Warsaw, Poland

Organizer - Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology

Patronage - The Section of Construction Projects Engineering of The Committee of Civil Engineering of The Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Association of Construction Managers (PSMB)

The conference will take place on: 11th (Wednesday from 12:00 p.m.)–13th (Friday until 14:00 p.m.) October 2023. The conference, organized for the fifty-fourth time under the auspices of The Section of Construction Projects Engineering of The Committee of Civil Engineering of The Polish Academy of Sciences and—for the first time—the Polish Association of Construction Managers, is a place of meetings and exchange of experience in the research work of the so-called single-name universities’ units in Poland, dealing with issues in the field of the management, organization, and technology of construction works, i.e., the broadly understood field of construction project engineering (IPB), including the latest trends, such as the Green Deal, digital twins, the circular economy, soft management, etc. The overriding goal of the conference is to present the latest scientific achievements in the field, as well as to exchange views, experience, and practical effects related to the subject of the preparation, design, management, and implementation of construction projects and the maintenance of buildings. The organizers and patrons of the conference put great emphasis on combining science and practice, which is why it will not only be attended by academics from construction and related departments, but also by representatives of the management staff of the main participants in the construction investment process. The scientific committee consists of professors from the majority of the Polish technical universities and universities providing teaching in the field of construction.
