Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, entitled "Development of Smart Asphalt Pavements ", aims to publish theoretical and experimental studies and reviews related to the most recently emerging research in the field of asphalt road pavement materials.

In this field, new materials have been developed in this field by taking into account different aspects, for example, the use of recycled materials, functionalization processes, and the incorporation of nano/microparticles.

Thus, we invite researchers to submit original, innovative research that will foster the continuous development of advanced concepts for the short- and medium-term benefit of the scientific community and industrial sectors, with the potential to impact specific market niches and their end-users. Articles that deal with the following (but not limited to) topical subheadings will be deemed suitable for publication:

  • Waste applied to asphalt mixtures;
  • The reuse of waste in asphalt mixtures and in the production of new value-added products;
  • Smart asphalt mixtures;
  • Asphalt mixtures with new capabilities;
  • The incorporation and loading of nano/microparticles into/over asphalt mixtures;
  • The advanced characterization of asphalt mixtures;
  • Photocatalytic and self-cleaning asphalt mixtures;
  • Self-healing, de-icing and anti-icing, and water-repellent (superhydrophobic) asphalt mixtures and binders;
  • Latent heat thermal energy storage including phase change materials (PCM) applications on asphalt mixtures;
  • The application of chromogenic materials (including thermochromic materials) to asphalt mixtures;
  • Piezoeletric materials applied to asphalt mixtures;
  • Environmental and energy applications of bionanomaterials to asphalt mixtures.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Solids is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
