Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sensing and recording of hydrogen ion concentrations (pH) have been essential in many chemical, biological, manufacturing, environmental, and medical applications. Novel devices and instruments have been emerging with the advances in optics, electronics, electrochemistry, materials, micro- and nanotechnologies, and fabrication techniques, enabling applications that were not possible before. New features and methodologies now allow continuous, in situ, in vivo, nanoscale, high-resolution, and real-time detection of pH variations on conformable surfaces, in three-dimensional space, in sensitive or harsh situations, and in dynamically changing environments. These new capabilities further empower new discoveries and knowledge in science and engineering, creating long-lasting impacts and benefits to our society.

This Special Issue, “pH Sensors”, aims to present new techniques, materials, devices, and instrumentation for pH sensing. Manuscripts with scopes in state-of-the-art research and applications related to pH sensing and/or reviews about particular techniques are encouraged for submission. The Special Issue topics for pH sensing include but are not limited to:

  • Investigation of materials, substrates and fabrication processes;
  • Electrochemical, optochemical, and magnetochenical principles;
  • Miniaturization and integration of pH sensors;
  • Non-invasive, in situ and in vivo pH sensing techniques;
  • Temporal recording and spatial mapping of pH variations;
  • pH sensing in biological systems;
  • pH sensing in harsh environments;
  • Applications of pH sensors.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
