Dear Colleagues,
The miniaturization of computers and electronic devices contributes significantly to the generalization of the Internet of Things. Wireless sensor networks, and especially the next generation of mobile communications, will be a key component for the deployment of highly sensorized, context-aware smart homes. Sensors, smart appliances, personal computers, and a variety of gadgets generate large amounts of data in real time. As a result, in the years to come, as these environments become predominant, a plethora of services and applications will be offered to a wide variety of potential users: from personalized entertainment and gaming systems to ambient assisted living, including surveillance, home automation, pet care, and food provisioning, to name a few. Notwithstanding, a number of proposals and solutions are currently on the market, especially in the home automation area.
All in all, despite the potential success of these devices and applications, there are some issues to be addressed—for instance, interoperability between systems and devices, reliable wireless interconnection, cybersecurity, and naturally, the privacy of individuals.
In this Special Issue, we will consider contributions related to these open research issues within the scenario of the Smart Home. Moreover, we will also focus on systematic reviews and papers describing proposals, advances, and applications related to wireless sensor networks and the Internet of Things.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
