Dear Colleagues,

Virtual reality (VR) is redefining what is possible in healthcare. These technologies are spreading day by day as a result of the recent accessibility of low-cost commercial solutions. To create fresh, compelling treatments that are both successful and efficient, novel VR applications are continually being pursued. As a result, the use of VR is ever expanding in the administration, promotion, and care of health.

This Special Issue's objective is to present the most recent developments in VR technologies leveraging sensory feedback for medical applications. In particular, VR is a powerful and flexible platform in which to customize user experiences and evaluate responses through visual, audio, and tactile sensations. Thus, VR can be a highly effective means from which to engage, teach, and affect the user cognitively, physically, and emotionally. Thus, the potential medical uses of VR include rehabilitation of function, lifestyle counseling, medical and surgical training, geriatric patient assessment, pediatric patient assessment, and pain management.

To establish the role of VR in healthcare, it is still necessary to test novel hypotheses and to examine broader contexts of studies. The current Special Issue's goal is to compile exceptional papers on the topic of VR healthcare applications leveraging sensing technologies. Consequently, we invite researchers from academia and industry to contribute both original research and review articles in the areas of patient treatment employing cutting-edge technologies. The topics covered by this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Virtual reality;
  • Healthcare;
  • Rehabilitation;
  • Medical applications;
  • Medical education;
  • Sensory feedback.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
