Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Today, imaging spectroscopy (also referred to as hyperspectral remote sensing) is well-developed, and many minerals can be identified using hyperspectral images. Imaging spectroscopy can be used to pinpoint the particular minerals of interest, but it can also locate indicator minerals that suggest a nearby location of a valuable ore deposit. At present, hyperspectral data can be acquired using different platforms—most often aerial, close-range (e.g., UAVs or scanning systems used in the field) or priximal. However, the first European hyperspectral satellite—PRISMA—was lunched in 2019, and hopefully, this satellite mission will be followed by EnMap in 2020 and even more in the future. Therefore, emphasis should be placed on multiplatform hyperspectral data integration and new techniqes allowing easy extraction of key information using these multiplatform data. Even today, hyperspectral image data do not have the resolution of a lab or field spectrometer; moreover, external factor affects the signal. Therefore, the question is what limitations state-of-art hyperspectral sensor/systems currently have and what can be resolved from such image spectra.

Hence, in this Special Issue, we are looking for novel solutions and approaches including but not limited to the topics as follows::

  • State-of-the-art mineral mapping techniqes focusing on novel quantitative methods;
  • Applications built/tested on state-of the art hyperspectral data;
  • New applications for UAV and other close-range hyperspectral systems;
  • Potential and limitations of hyperspectral satellite missions in mineral mapping;
  • Techniques for multiplatform data fusion;
  • Integration of optical and thermal hyperspectral data.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Remote Sensing is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
