Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Reversible-deactivation radical polymerization (RDRP) techniques have revolutionized the synthesis of polymers with well-defined macromolecular architectures. Advances on the three classic versions of RDRP—nitroxide-mediated polymerization (NMP), reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, and atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP)—have enabled the synthesis of functional polymers with predefined composition, length, end group, and dispersity. Despite similarly acting through an activation-deactivation mechanism, each method—NMP, RAFT, or ATRP—presents unique opportunities and challenges.

The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight the fundamental aspects of polymer synthesis employing RDRP techniques, including the latest exciting developments (e.g., the use of light, electrical or mechanical stimuli, and oxygen-tolerant approaches, among others), for the preparation of homopolymers, copolymers, graft polymers, stimuli-responsible polymers, networks, hybrid materials, etc. Moreover, recent advances in simulation tools, characterization, and applications of well-defined functional polymers (e.g., cosmetics, health, energy, paint, electronics, environmental remediation, etc.) are also welcome.
