Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Currently, solid-state batteries are considered promising next-generation energy storage devices owing to their enhanced safety and energy density. However, the practical application of SSBs has been hampered by the unstable and fragile solid electrolyte interphase, which is formed by the side reactions between Li metal and liquid electrolytes. Polymer electrolytes (PEs) can alleviate safety and interface issues due to their inherently competitive interface property and enhanced ionic conductivity. The developed multi-functional applications of PEs have displayed essential roles in SSBs, including gel polymer electrolytes, polymer composite electrolytes, self-healing polymer electrolytes for high-performance Li metal, and “beyond Li” (Na, K, Zn, Mg, Al)-based batteries.

The aim of this Special Issue, entitled “Advances in Functional Polymer Electrolytes”, is to present cutting-edge achievements in the related subjects focusing on (but not limited to) the design and synthesis of functional polymer electrolytes for next-generation energy storage devices. This Special Issue will provide timely and comprehensive references for recent progress in this subject. Research papers, reviews, and short communications are welcome for publication.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
