Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In this Special Issue, we embark on a captivating exploration of the intricate relationship between plants and microbes, unveiling the wonders of their secondary metabolites as well as the crucial roles and diverse applications thereof. These compounds, acting as rich sources of biomolecules, have sparked interest across clinical, pharmacological, cosmetic, and industrial domains. Although they are not direct drugs, they collectively form a reservoir of phytochemicals and microbial-derived compounds that are vital for drug development.

Our issue delves into the historical significance of natural products from both plants and microbes, emphasizing their potential as sources of novel therapeutic agents and inspiration for medicinal chemists. In response to the growing demand for healthy products, we explore how plant-derived substances and microbe-derived compounds synergistically enhance shelf life, organoleptic qualities, and nutritional attributes, contributing to the development of functional products in global markets.

Moreover, considering the role of secondary metabolites as natural defenses for plants, we broaden our exploration to investigate the intricate interplay between plants and their associated microbes within crop protection and biocide formulation. As we present a diverse array of perspectives on plant and microbial secondary metabolites, this Special Issue aims to enrich our understanding of the synergistic dynamics between medicinal plants and microorganisms, contributing to advancements in drug development, crop protection, and biotechnological processes. Join us in this multidimensional exploration of the plant kingdom's biochemical treasures and the fascinating world of microbial interactions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
