Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Vision and sight help people connect with surroundings. There are several diseases that can affect the human eye. Blinding diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, trachoma and corneal infections are common worldwide. In the last 10 years, the field of developing ocular drug delivery systems that can target the front and the back of the eye has progressed. Several ocular delivery systems for therapeutic agents in form of topical gels, eye drops, contact lens, intravitreal implants and injectables has been developed. Improvement of penetration of therapeutic agents through cornea and sclera offers delivery of wide range of drugs via topical application in form of gels and eye drops. Intravitreal implants and injectables offer sustained release of therapeutic agents to target the back of the eye.

The aim of this special issue aims to provide experts insights on the recent improvement in ocular delivery systems. Research areas may include, but, not limited to: novel drug impregnated contact lens, topical ocular delivery systems, sustained release intravitreal injectable systems, implants, nanoparticles for delivery of ocular therapeutics and novel ocular tissues penetration enhancers.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.
