Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the past few years, emerging and reemerging zoonotic infections have posed significant challenges to healthcare systems at a global scale. The recent COVID-19 pandemic illustrated the massive impact of a novel disease with zoonotic origin and respiratory human-to-human transmission. However, other zoonotic infections, including arboviral diseases, Influenza, Ebola, and several bacterial, protozoan, and parasitic conditions, have relentlessly affected human populations, particularly those living in more vulnerable conditions. In addition, contemporary environmental and behavioral aspects such as climate change, human mobility, and intensive animal farming influence the likelihood and potential risks associated with emerging and reemerging zoonotic infections.

In this special issue of Microorganisms, we are pleased to invite you to contribute manuscripts that advance the scientific knowledge on zoonotic infections and parasitic diseases. Original research articles, brief reports, and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following: basic, translational, clinical, and epidemiological studies addressing viral zoonotic infections; bacterial zoonotic infections; protozoan and parasitic zoonotic infections.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
