Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Clean air and water are essential to human survival and the development of our society, but various anthropogenic pollutants in both the air and water, including particulate matters (e.g., dusts and microplastics), industrial and indoor harmful gases (e.g., nitrogen/sulfur oxides, formaldehyde and toluene), dissolved organic compounds (e.g., dyes, pesticides and antibiotics) and heavy metal ions, are posing tremendous threats to the environment and human health. Membrane catalysis, which combines the physical separation and chemical conversion processes, has recently become a cutting-edge technology for air purification and wastewater treatment. It has been well recognized that the introduction of catalytic oxidation/reduction into separation processes enables the simultaneous and efficient removal of particulate matters and toxic pollutants, and endows membranes with a self-cleaning property.
The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight the advancements in catalytic membranes and membrane reactors for environmental applications. This Special Issue will focus on, but is not limited to, the novel fabrication strategies of catalytic membranes; understanding the relationship of catalyst microstructural properties and membrane performance; mechanistic insights into pollutant removal by catalytic membranes; numerical simulations of the membrane transport and catalysis processes; process efficiencies; and techno-economic and life-cycle evaluations of catalytic membrane reactors. Original research articles and reviews on catalytic membranes and membrane reactors are welcome. All invited submissions for this Special Issue will be subjected to a peer review process.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Membranes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
