Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Additive Manufacturing (AM) fabrication techniques, methods, and tooling has exponentially increased over the past decade. Additionally, there have been a variety of novel applications for advanced manufacturing ranging from structural, sensing, wearables, and communications to food printing. However, one of the limiting factors in expanding AM to new areas is the development of compatible material systems. Even now, there remains a variety of materials and functionalities that can be applied to AM to push 3D structures and devices to new heights. These materials range from “printable materials” with electrical, electromagnetic, and/or structural functionality to substrate materials, coatings, and treatments which can be used to improve printability and/or stability. The challenges associated with expanding material integration can be applied to a variety of material systems such as polymers, composites, metals, alloys, ceramics, and nano/micro particles or over a variety of novel printing methods. By expanding the materials possible in a 3D or additive form-factor, one can begin to unlock the true potential of this exciting field.

In this Special Issue, we highlight and discuss both novel materials and material-focused applications for all Additive Manufacturing techniques.

It is our pleasure to invite you to submit a manuscript for this Special Issue. Full papers, communications, and reviews are all welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
