Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce a request for submissions to the Special Issue "Promoting Anti-racism in Land System Science and Social Ecological Systems". The goal of this Special Issue is to delve into and tackle the pressing issues of disparity, underrepresentation and enduring discrimination faced by Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) as well as historically marginalized communities within the realm of land system science and social ecological systems.

This Special Issue seeks to assess anti-racist and decolonial strategies in the field of land system science by exploring how racial prejudices and systemic injustices impact areas such as land use management, landscape planning and environmental regulations. We welcome submissions that examine frameworks and methodologies that critically propose reforms for inclusive practices and provide insights on how land system science can actively contribute to combating racism both theoretically and practically.

We are particularly interested in articles that achieve the following:

  1. Investigate the influence of race and historical colonial legacies on shaping land utilization, management practices and environmental policies.
  2. Examine the effects of racism on communities concerning land use choices and environmental equity.
  3. Suggest structures or methodologies to integrate anti-racist strategies into research and practices related to land systems.
  4. Detail instances where anti-racist and decolonial methods have been put into practice in land system studies and their resulting impacts.

We look forward to receiving your original research articles and reviews.
