Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Optical microscopy serves as a powerful tool for investigating biological structures and processes across various scales. Recent advancements in microscopy for biomedical imaging have empowered scientists to integrate multiplex, multimodal, and multiscale imaging techniques, enabling a comprehensive exploration of biological mechanisms. Image processing plays an important role in extracting meaningful information from raw image datasets.

This Special Issue aims to present the latest developments and applications of image processing methods in microscopy for biomedical imaging. Topics of interest include but are not limited to (1) image enhancement, restoration, denoising, and super-resolution method for low-signal imaging; (2) image segmentation, classification, and morphodynamics tracking method for time-lapse live-cell imaging; (3) image registration, fusion, and reconstruction for multiplex and multimodal imaging; (4) digital stain imaging, virtual histology, and diagnosis for label-free imaging; (5) real-time or embedded image processing methods for high-throughput imaging; (6) image quality assessment method for optimizing imaging condition (e.g., autofocus) and comparing different algorithms; (7) image reconstruction method for computational microscopy; and (8) image rendering and interactive visualization.

We invite original research papers that highlight the advantages and challenges of specific methods for biomedical imaging. We also welcome review articles that provide a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art techniques and future directions in this field. We look forward to your contributions that advance our understanding of image processing techniques, and their impact on the field of biomedical imaging.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Imaging is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
